Take A Trip Off The Beaten Path
Rutland Country Club returns golfers to the roots of the game during the time when courses were carved from the hilltops and rolling meadows in the Central Scottish Highlands. Visitors to this hideaway located in the mountains of Tioga County Pennsylvania near Mansfield can expect spectacular views while playing this hillside course that offers challenging play to golfers of all types. Situated on an active century dairy farm, you will find bentgrass greens and fairways that are outlined by white board fences.

The Humble Tin Cup Begining
The early beginings of this Golf Club can be traced back to 1996, when the Club Founder, Michael Crippen returned to live near the family farm located in Rutland Township. Mr. Crippen had been living in Reading, Pennsylvania where he had been exposed to the game of golf while residing at the Flying Hills Golf Club. Like many of the earliest golf clubs that started America, with the founders having visited the courses in Scotland, and upon returning they would introduce their friends to the game of golf. This Club began one day while some friends were siting around a table shooting the breeze while having a casual conversation. The view out of the picture window that day provided a magnificent picturesque look of the valley below. At some point, the subject of golf was brought into the conversation and one of the friends remarked that a spot in the yonder field would make a good location for a golf hole. The following summer, a crude golf hole was mowed down and a coffee can was placed in the ground for a cup.

The Rest Is History
Soon after the first green was carved out which later was appropriately named the "Road Hole". Friends began showing up on the weekends with clubs to drive balls over a pasture to the green guarded by a dirt road. It was the first time that cattle, having roamed over this land for over 100 years, had seen the little white ball. Before we knew it a few more holes were developed, with each having it's own character. As more people came, modest greens fees were collected to offset mowing costs. Next came 4-Wheelers for transportation that were followed by the purchasing of golf carts. The rest is history. Today, looking back to the begining of how this all started, this nine hole open links layout has come a long way. While the condition of the course has vastly improved, the 'golf-on-the-farm-charm' has been retained. When you come to play golf at Rutland Country Club, you will find a creative, beautiful setting that is always fun.
